According to Al-Jazeera correspondent in Libya on Wednesday, killing the U.S. ambassador to Tripoli in the attack by gunmen on the consulate and Washington in the eastern city of Benghazi.
Libyan official said that the U.S. ambassador to Libya and three other embassy employees were killed in a rocket attack on Tuesday in Benghazi.

It was not clear whether the ambassador was in his car or at the Libyan consulate when he was attacked.

The Libyan official said in Benghazi, told Reuters "kill the U.S. ambassador and three employees of the embassy when militants fired rockets at them."


The correspondent said that three other Americans, including two Marines were at the consulate were killed in the attack by a group calling itself the Supporters of Sharia protest against the film in the United States and considered offensive to the Prophet of Islam Muhammad, peace be upon him.

The Associated Press reported that the author of the film and its director Sam Basile spoke by telephone on Tuesday from an undisclosed location, describing Islam as a "cancer" and that he wanted the film to send a political message.

He knew the producer and director, 56-year-old himself as an Israeli Jew, and expressed his belief that his film will help his native country through the "expose flaws Islam to the world," according to Associated Press report
